Hey FergatROn,

Yeah man, colocation works great, but mainly if its local. I had this server in Texas and it has been a huge headache. I manage a few servers for a couple companies and they are all here in atlanta. 6 servers total. If you're interested, I could probably host a 1U server for like $60 a month.

I started back in 1999-2000 hosting my own Counter-Strike server and that is how I got into all this stuff in the first place. I haven't hosted a game server in over 7 years though. I actually just got a new box for a game server though, and I should be putting that up in december. My primary reason for hosting a server though was for web pages. I've hosted a bunch of sites for friends and family primarily and some times paying customers hehe. I just do it cause I enjoy networks/servers/etc. I have always had windows servers, but have really wanted to get into linux more. And I never officially hosted an exchange server, but I did toy with it a few times. Its a beast though, way more complex than what I wanted. I used to host DNS, but I've off loaded that to slicehost.net, Great virtual servers over there.

Hey Goat,

How was your experience using colocation? I thought about using it a long time ago, but never went through with it! Would have put up a linuxbox or a windowsbox? Did you host game services or was it strictly for your web site? Were you gonna do an Exchange serve, blah blah blah!?
